Workshop topic

Atmospheric sciences are at the interface between chemical sciences, physical sciences, astrophysics and environmental sciences. In addition to the present and past climates of the Earth and the planets of the Solar System, the diversity of exo-planetary climates is now being added to the present and past climates of the Earth and the planets of the Solar System. In this vast field, the same physical and chemical principles are at work but controlled by highly variable parameters: properties of the star; gravity, radius, rotation and orbit of the planet; mass and composition of the atmosphere; presence and distribution of a condensable reservoir that causes the formation of mist; surface topography and internal heat flux. The influences of these parameters are coupled in complex and sometimes very sensitive mechanisms that can cause a planet to shift from one climatic regime to another. At the microscopic scale, the formation and evolution of planetary atmospheres, which occur on very large time and space scales, rely on a wide variety of physical-chemical processes of gas-particle and gas-gas interaction.

The objective of this workshop is to bring together researchers involved in the description and modeling of the physico-chemical processes of planetary atmospheres in the broadest sense. These days will promote exchanges between theorists, modelers and experimenters of the GDR EMIE and GDR SpecMo communities. They will allow to share and cross-reference recent advances in our knowledge obtained through theoretical, experimental and observational approaches. The workshop will be articulated around oral presentations organized in thematic sessions.

Invited speakers:

  • Michel Viso (CNES, Paris) - to be confirmed
  • Christian Georges (IRCELYON, Lyon)
